Hey everyone this is my first post. I was just wondering...I have tickets for Gypsy towards the end of September and I can't wait to go! I got them in May and I've been waiting and waiting to go, but I have front row seats! so it will be worth the wait. Bernadette is always worth the wait! But anyway my question is how is the best way to get a letter to Bernadette. I absolutely adore her and have written to the address on her official site as well as emailed her though I know she most likely cannot read that mail. Do you think giving her a letter at the show would be a good idea?
Have any of you done this? What was her response? I'm sure she will be lovely and gracious as always, but I'm just wondering.

Oh yeah! One more thing...why did Michael have surgery? I didn't know about this. I hope everything went okay.

The last time I saw Gypsy i wrote bernadette a letter and gave it to her at the stage door...she will be very thankful for it! She will defientely read but more than likely you will not get a response from her as she is incredbily busy!!! Good luck and have fun....the show is amazing!!!!!!!!

I would say (although I am not an expert) if you have already tried writing to her publicist's address (and you never know; she may have read it) you can either

A) send a letter to the Shubert Theatre, whose address is listed on Gypsythemusical.com

OR

B) You can go to the stage door approximately an hour before the performance and ask the stage door person (usually there's someone who stands in the doorway and goes in and out to keep track of things) if they can give your letter to Bernadette. I'm pretty sure you can do this, but the worst they can say is "no, I'm sorry," in which case you go to plan A. lol.

OR... there is also

C) the most intimidating (and ballsy) of all the plans, and simply hand Bernadette herself the letter after the show when she's signing your program. I can't imagine her not taking it; she's very nice and thankful that her fans come out to wait for her every evening. It just takes a lot of courage on your part to actually hand it to her.

Good luck, enjoy the show (I'm going in October!!) and welcome to the board!

I say go for plan C. At least then you'll know first hand that she got the letter.
And, if for any reason you don't get a chance to hand it to her (like if you can't get close enough to the stage door the night you go), then either go back the next night (a little before the show gets out) so you have a guarantee to be near the door, or hand it to the stage door person and ask them to give it to Bernadette the next time she's in.

If you don't hand it to her, you may regret it later on.

when i saw gypsy i took a gift to the stage door about 2 hours before the show and the person at the stage door gave it to her and bernadette and i actually talked about the gift when she came out to sign. and then i had the chance to thank the person who gave it to her...so plan b also works

I think daedreams is onto something (how lovely and thoughtful of you, daedreams, to bring a present)--attach your letter to a small bouquet of flowers and I'll bet it gets noticed!

well it definitely was memorable...when i asked her about if she got it she and i talked for a few minutes and was amazed that someone would do something like that. and the gift was a continuation of something started when i saw her in green bay last September and she remembered that too. so she definitely is grateful for anything from the heart sorry if i make no sense...i just got home from inventory at work...how fun and on a sunday night

Jean, please don't take this the wrong way...but you don't need to buy her anything for her to see your letter. She appreciates letters just as much as she'd appreciate any gifts. I think a thoughtful letter is worth more than a gift thrown together just to get her attention.

What's wrong with a gift? I think a gift is fine. Obviously if you care enough to buy or make her something, it's because you admire her. How would anyone know that it was "thrown together"? Letters, gifts...everything is probably very appreciated. It's the thought that counts!

I never said there was ANYTHING wrong with a gift-- if its given to her from the heart and not just to grab her attention so she'll be more inclined to read your letter. To me, Jean's post implied that a letter would be more likely to get noticed if it was attached to a bouquet or to a gift. You're right--it is the thought that counts and that's exactly what I meant by my post.

I think that while gifts are nice, they are too personal if you don't actually know the person, a card is good, and flowers are good.

LOL yeah, I meant flowers or something like that when I was talking about gifts. It would be kinda weird to send someone you don't know a really personal present!! Can you imagine? "Here's a shirt I bought for you, I hope it fits!!"
